Hub mode: monitor mixes for musicians

Last updated October 16, 2026

The hub is the computer that talks to the mixer for everybody. Phones join the hub, so they do not use up the mixer's connections. Each musician sees and changes only their own monitor mix.

Turn the hub on (Windows)

  1. Connect the Windows computer to the same network as your mixer, and connect the mixer in Mixhand.
  2. Open the Hub window from the Hub menu, or press Ctrl+H.
  3. Choose which network the phones use. The usual choice is the same network as your mixer.
  4. Turn the hub on. Keep this computer awake and its lid open while phones use the hub.

Mixhand will not start a hub on an internet-facing address. A Mac app that can host the hub comes later.

Add a musician by QR code

  1. In the Hub window, choose Add a device.
  2. Choose which mix the device is for. There is no default, so you decide each time.
  3. A QR code and a short code appear on your screen.
  4. On the musician's phone, open Mixhand, then My monitor mix, then Scan code from your engineer.
  5. The phone asks for a name and part, for example Anna - alto. When it joins, you approve it on the host.

The system camera app cannot open this code, so open Mixhand first. If scanning does not work, type the address and the code instead.

A code works once and expires. After 5 wrong codes the window closes. A hub keeps up to 128 devices.

What each role can do

Musician (own mix): sees and changes only its own monitor mix, and cannot see or change anything else.

Viewer: sees the whole mix and the meters, and changes nothing.

Engineer: full control, as if standing at the mixer. Mixhand asks you to confirm this.

Owner: manages devices and has full control.

Remove a device

In the Devices list you can rename a device, change its role, make it view only, or remove it. Removing a device does not change what that musician hears. To use it again they need a new code.

After a restart

The app remembers that the hub was on and starts it again with the app, so phones reconnect without a tap.
